Connect Google Search Console to Claude

You need a Search Console property you own, a Claude plan with custom connectors, and a free CalmSEO account. Setup takes about five minutes. After that you can ask Claude about your clicks, impressions, rankings, and pages in plain English.

What you need

  • A Google Search Console property you have access to. Owner, full, or restricted permission all work. Claude can only see properties the connected Google account can see.
  • Claude with custom connector support. Claude web (claude.ai) and Claude Desktop use the same Connectors screen. Claude Code connects with a single CLI command. Check Anthropic's custom connector article for current plan availability. On Team or Enterprise plans, an owner may need to add the connector at the organization level first.
  • A free CalmSEO account. CalmSEO is the SEO MCP server that sits between Claude and Google. Claude does not talk to Search Console directly; it calls CalmSEO tools, and CalmSEO reads from the Search Console API with a read-only token.

Steps

Set up Claude web or Claude Desktop

  1. Create a free CalmSEO account. Sign up at calmseo.com. Search Console tools are free on every plan and no card is needed.
  2. Connect Google Search Console. In the CalmSEO dashboard, open the Google Search Console card and click Connect with Google. Approve the read-only scope on Google's consent screen using the account that owns your property.
  3. Open Connectors in Claude. In Claude web or Claude Desktop, go to Customize > Connectors or Settings > Connectors.
  4. Add CalmSEO as a custom connector. Click +, choose Add custom connector, enter CalmSEO as the name and https://mcp.calmseo.com/mcp as the remote MCP server URL, then click Add.
  5. Connect and sign in. Click Connect next to CalmSEO and complete the CalmSEO sign-in. This links Claude to the account you connected Search Console to.
  6. Enable CalmSEO in a chat. Start a new chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors, and turn on CalmSEO. Then ask a Search Console question.

Complete steps 1 and 2 above so your CalmSEO account has Search Console connected, then run this in your terminal:

Claude Code prompts you to authenticate with CalmSEO the first time it calls a tool. After that, ask Search Console questions inside any session. This works well for pairing Search Console data with the site code in front of you, for example pulling low-CTR pages and editing their titles in the same session.

  • What are my top queries by clicks over the last 28 days?
  • Which pages have more than 1,000 impressions and CTR under 1%?
  • Compare the last 28 days with the previous 28. Which pages lost the most clicks?
  • List queries where my average position is between 8 and 20, sorted by impressions.
  • What queries does /pricing rank for, and which ones are worth a dedicated page?
  • Find queries I get impressions for but have no page targeting.
  • Check my sitemaps. Are any missing, stale, or reporting errors?
  • Suggest five pages to refresh this week and explain the reasoning with data.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

  • Claude doesn't list any CalmSEO tools. Confirm the connector shows as connected on the Connectors screen, then check it is enabled for the current chat from the + menu. Start a new chat after enabling.
  • My property isn't showing. CalmSEO reads the properties of the Google account you approved. Open the CalmSEO dashboard and check the Google Search Console card. If the wrong account is listed, click Disconnect, then Connect with Google again and pick the right one on Google's account chooser.
  • Domain vs URL-prefix property. Both are supported, but they are separate properties with different data. Tell Claude which one you mean, for example sc-domain:example.com.
  • "No data" for recent dates. Google's lag, not a broken connection. Widen the date range.
  • Revoking access. Click Disconnect in the CalmSEO dashboard to revoke the stored Google token. Remove the connector in Claude to stop Claude calling CalmSEO at all. You can also remove CalmSEO from your Google account's third-party access settings.

Does Claude have built-in SEO tools?+
No. Claude has no native Search Console, keyword, or rank tracking tools. It gets SEO data through MCP connectors. CalmSEO is one such connector, with free Search Console tools plus paid keyword and SERP tools.
Is this free?+
Yes. Search Console tools are free on every CalmSEO plan with no card required. Credits only apply to third-party data such as keyword volume, SERP results, ranked keywords, and page audits.
Is the connection read-only?+
Yes. CalmSEO requests only the read-only Search Console scope. Claude can read analytics, queries, pages, and sitemap status. It cannot submit URLs, edit properties, or change settings.
Does this work with Claude Code?+
Yes. Run claude mcp add calmseo --transport http https://mcp.calmseo.com/mcp in your terminal, authenticate when prompted, and the same Search Console tools are available in every Claude Code session.
Which Claude apps support it?+
Claude web (claude.ai) and Claude Desktop through the Connectors screen, and Claude Code through the CLI. Custom connectors are an Anthropic feature, so plan availability is set by Anthropic.
Which Search Console tools does Claude get?+
Six tools: list_gsc_sites, get_gsc_top_queries, get_gsc_top_pages, get_gsc_page_queries, query_gsc_search_analytics, and list_gsc_sitemaps. Claude picks the right one based on your question.
Can I connect more than one Search Console property?+
Yes. You authorize one Google account and Claude can read every property that account has access to. Name the property in your prompt when you have several.
Is CalmSEO made by Anthropic?+
No. CalmSEO is an independent MCP server. It works with Claude because Claude supports the open MCP standard. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic.
