Setup guide

Connect Google Search Console to Cursor

Add CalmSEO to Cursor with one click, sign in, and connect your Search Console property. Setup takes about five minutes. Cursor's agent can then read your clicks, impressions, queries, and pages while it works on your site's code.

The button opens the Cursor desktop app. If you don't have a CalmSEO account yet, you create a free one during sign-in.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Google Search Console property you have access to. Owner, full, or restricted permission all work. Cursor can only see properties the connected Google account can see.
  • The Cursor desktop app. The Add to Cursor button is a Cursor install link, so Cursor needs to be installed on the computer you click it from.
  • A free CalmSEO account. CalmSEO is the SEO MCP server that sits between Cursor and Google. Cursor calls CalmSEO tools, and CalmSEO reads from the Search Console API with a read-only token.

If the term is new to you, read what a Google Search Console MCP is first. This page only covers setup.

Steps

Set up Cursor with one click

  1. Click Add to Cursor. Click the Add to Cursor button on this page. Your browser opens the Cursor app, and Cursor prompts you to install the calmseo MCP server. Confirm the install.
  2. Sign in to CalmSEO. When Cursor prompts you to authenticate, it opens calmseo.com in your browser. Sign in with the one-time code sent to your email, then click Authorize. A new email creates a free CalmSEO account.
  3. Connect Google Search Console. In the CalmSEO dashboard, open the Google Search Console card and click Connect with Google. Approve the read-only scope on Google's consent screen using the account that can see your property.
  4. Check the connection in Cursor. Open a new Agent chat in Cursor and ask it to use CalmSEO to list your Search Console properties. Cursor calls the list_gsc_sites tool and returns the properties CalmSEO can read.

Add to Cursor

If you already have a CalmSEO account with Search Console connected, steps 2 and 3 take a few seconds. Sign in and click Authorize.

Manual setup

Add CalmSEO to mcp.json by hand

Use this if the button does not open Cursor, or if you want to commit the config to a repo. Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json to make CalmSEO available in every project, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a repo to limit it to that project:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "calmseo": {
      "url": "https://mcp.calmseo.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Save the file, then follow steps 2 to 4 above. If CalmSEO does not show up, restart Cursor. You can manage MCP servers, including turning CalmSEO on or off, from the Customize page in Cursor's sidebar. See Cursor's MCP documentation for the current settings screens.

You can also paste the install link into your browser's address bar. It opens the same install prompt as the button:

cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=calmseo&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5jYWxtc2VvLmNvbS9tY3AifQ==

The Cursor setup docs cover the same steps in reference form.

Prompts

What to ask Cursor once connected

  • Use CalmSEO to list my Search Console properties.
  • Use CalmSEO to show my top 20 queries by clicks for sc-domain:example.com over the last 28 days.
  • Use CalmSEO to find pages with more than 1,000 impressions and CTR under 1%. Then find the file in this repo that renders each one.
  • Use CalmSEO to get the queries for https://example.com/pricing and compare them with that page's title and meta description in this repo.

Use the exact property ID from the first prompt in later ones. For the full workflow of finding queries at positions 5 to 30, editing the ranking page in your repo, and measuring the result, read SEO in Cursor with your Google Search Console data.

Tools

What the connection includes

Six Search Console tools, free on every CalmSEO plan: list_gsc_sites, get_gsc_top_queries, get_gsc_top_pages, get_gsc_page_queries, query_gsc_search_analytics, and list_gsc_sitemaps. Search Console data arrives with a two to three day lag.

The same server also has tools for third-party data that use credits. A SERP check with search_serp costs 1 to 3 credits depending on depth, get_keyword_search_volume costs 15, find_keyword_ideas costs 15 to 50, get_ranked_keywords costs 5 to 20, and a single-page audit with audit_page costs 5. New accounts start with 20 free credits.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

  • The Add to Cursor button does nothing. The link only works when the Cursor app is installed. Some browsers ask before opening an app, so check for a prompt. Otherwise use the manual setup.
  • Cursor says to connect Google Search Console. CalmSEO is linked, but your account has no Google connection yet. Complete step 3 in the CalmSEO dashboard and ask again.
  • Cursor doesn't use CalmSEO. Check that CalmSEO is turned on in Customize, then start a new Agent chat and ask it explicitly to use CalmSEO. The MCP Logs channel in Cursor's Output panel shows connection and tool errors.
  • My property isn't showing. CalmSEO reads the properties of the Google account you approved. Open the CalmSEO dashboard and check the Google Search Console card. If the wrong account is listed, click Disconnect, then Connect with Google again and pick the right one on Google's account chooser.
  • Domain vs URL-prefix property. Both are supported, but they are separate properties with different data. Tell Cursor which one you mean, for example sc-domain:example.com.
  • "No data" for recent dates. Search Console data arrives with a two to three day lag. Widen the date range.
  • Revoking access. Click Disconnect in the CalmSEO dashboard to revoke the stored Google token. Remove the calmseo entry from Cursor to stop Cursor calling CalmSEO. You can also remove CalmSEO from your Google account's third-party access settings.
FAQ

Frequently asked.

How do I connect Google Search Console to Cursor?+
Click Add to Cursor on this page and confirm the install in Cursor. Sign in to CalmSEO when Cursor asks you to authenticate, then click Connect with Google in the CalmSEO dashboard. After that, ask Cursor's agent to use CalmSEO to list your Search Console properties.
What does the Add to Cursor link install?+
A remote MCP server entry named calmseo that points to https://mcp.calmseo.com/mcp. It is the same entry as the manual mcp.json config. No local server process runs, and you sign in with OAuth instead of pasting an API key.
Is this free?+
Yes. Search Console tools are free on every CalmSEO plan with no card required. Credits only apply to third-party data such as keyword volume, SERP results, ranked keywords, and page audits. New accounts start with 20 free credits.
Is the connection read-only?+
Yes. CalmSEO requests only the read-only Search Console scope. Cursor can read analytics, queries, pages, and sitemap status. It cannot submit URLs, edit properties, or change settings.
Which Search Console tools does Cursor get?+
Six tools: list_gsc_sites, get_gsc_top_queries, get_gsc_top_pages, get_gsc_page_queries, query_gsc_search_analytics, and list_gsc_sitemaps. Cursor picks the right one based on your question.
Should I use the global or the project mcp.json?+
Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json to make CalmSEO available in every project. Use .cursor/mcp.json inside a repo to limit it to that project. The Add to Cursor link adds CalmSEO for you, so you only need a file for manual setup.
Is CalmSEO made by Cursor?+
No. CalmSEO is an independent MCP server. It works with Cursor because Cursor supports remote MCP servers with OAuth. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Anysphere, the company behind Cursor.
